Small Country - Big Change

Welcome to our website on Devolution in Wales.

The Government of Wales Act 2006 has created a new constitutional
settlement for Wales which we regard as being so important that we
want to tell you about the implications for the law of Wales and the constitutional context in which public bodies and businesses will conduct their affairs in Wales.

"Is it legal in Wales?" is an entirely novel question for any citizen in Wales or any commercial or public body conducting their day to day affairs. Wales` own law book is going to develop quickly given the new power of the National Assembly for Wales to make its own Assembly Measures in a series of devolved fields from May 2007. These Measures are primary Legislation and broadly will be the equivalent of an English Act of Parliament.

We can help you to understand the devolution processes and how they work, to know the difference between Welsh Assembly Government and the National Assembly for Wales, to learn about Assembly Measures which are being proposed, are under consultation or scrutiny and to understand when and how Wales law will diverge from England law.
